The Synchrony® Respiratory Tracking System

www.cyberknife.com/Products/Synchrony

This system is designed to track tumor movement due to breathing. The patient is fitted for a vest and is required to wear this during treatment. The vest tracks tumor motion with respiratory motion, directing the linear accelerator to deliver highly accurate radiation beams to moving tumors. The Synchrony System constantly updates its correlation model with each new X-ray image, automatically correcting for any changes in the patient’s breathing patterns.
The custom-designed Synchrony Vest and Tracking Markers allows for simplified patient setup and marker placement, especially for multi-fraction treatments where the Vest and Markers rarely need to be adjusted. Patients are directed to breathe normally throughout treatment delivery.
Tumors treated with the Vest and Markers:
  • Lung
  • Pancreas
  • Kidney
  • Liver
  • Prostate

How Cyberknife Works

Cyberknife uses image guided technology and computer controlled robotics to deliver high doses of radiation to the tumor with submillimeter accuracy. This is a non-invasive treatment that eliminates the metal head frame used in other stereotactic radiosurgery. The patient lies on the treatment table while the robotic arm moves around him or her. X-ray images are taken throughout the treatment, and the RoboCouch™ is adjusted according to tumor or patient movement. The couch can be adjusted in the room or the planning station.

Accuray's RoboCouch™ System allows patient positioning in six degrees of freedom:

  1. Anterior/Posterior
  2. Superior/Inferior

  3. Left/Right

  4. Roll

  5. Pitch

  6. Yaw
